“We are grateful for Medicap’s support the past five years through its successful flu shot campaign,” said Michelle Book, Food Bank of Iowa CEO. “Our organizations share a similar goal: to improve the health and well-being of Iowans and strengthen local communities. This donation will provide much-needed nutrition for our neighbors facing food insecurity, a third of whom are children.”

As a local independent pharmacy, Medicap Pharmacy is tied into the communities it serves; the residents benefitting from the partnership are their neighbors. The 20 participating Central Iowa locations raised a total of $20,000 which will be shared between the local pantries in the 11 Iowa counties these stores serve. Food Bank of Iowa can deliver a meal for about $0.40 to an Iowan in need of food assistance.

"Our flu shot partnership with the Food Bank of Iowa is valuable to people in our local counties who have been struggling to provide food for their families throughout the pandemic, and it helps protect our community from preventable illness,” says Greg Johansen, R.Ph., President of GRX Holdings, LLC/Medicap Pharmacy Central Iowa.
